The Transformation Station Community and Family Life Center (TSCFLC)
is proud to present the first edition of its quarterly newsletter. Even
before the doors of the Center open, we are striving to uphold one of
its three areas of focus, Education. This newsletter's purpose is to
inform the Transformation Station First Baptist Church congregation and
the community about the work of the TSCFLC. Until the Center's doors
open, this newsletter will impart information about the progress of the
physical and programmatic aspects of the vision. Each quarter the newsletter
will spotlight a specific program. It will include a message from Pastor
Beard, an updated project schedule, new architectural renderings, and
current building fund information. The newsletter will also provide
details on any important developments in the project's progression. One
such development occurred recently. On May 19, 2003 a crucial
hurdle was crossed. RBGC Architecture formally submitted the building
concept to the Board of Architectural Review (BAR) for preliminary approval. The
BAR's response was overwhelmingly positive, allowing RBGC to continue
to develop and refine the Center's design. As we move forward, we need
the church family and community to continue to lift the TSCFLC up in
prayer.
This quarter's spotlighted program falls under Education, the K-12 Institute.
As you learn more about this program and pray to see the mission of Education
fulfilled, be inspired by the following scripture: "Study
to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth." - 2 Timothy 2:15, KJV
The K-12 Institute works to prepare the children of our community to
realize their full potential. The Transformation Station Community
and Family Life Center (TSCFLC) will be a place where children can learn
how to avoid unnecessary pitfalls, maneuver obstacles, and reach their
dreams through victorious living! The TSCFLC will provide the youth of
our community with a safe and supportive, Christian-based, after-school
environment. School-related tutoring for youth in grades K-12
will provide homework help and enrichment activities that have a positive
and lasting impact on student achievement. Bridging academics
with life skills, career opportunities, entrepreneurial experiences,
and technology will encourage children to apply classroom teachings to
daily life. All K-12 Institute programs will include skill-building
activities in the areas of goal setting, leadership, conflict resolution,
teamwork, and individual exploration. Parental involvement will
be an important aspect of all K-12 Institute programming. Parental involvement
is the best indicator of academic achievement and positive spiritual
growth. It is our prayer that the K-12 Institute offer a Fine Arts program. Our
youth are full of creative energy. An arts program will encourage self-expression
and creative focus with classes that introduce and enhance talents in
areas such as visual arts, music, and poetry.
The K-12 Institute's permanent home will be in the basement of our existing church
building. The basement fellowship hall and administrative offices will
be renovated and subdivided to create six new classrooms, equipped with instructional
amenities, storage and new restroom facilities. In addition to an independent
entry on 7 th Street, the K-12 Institute will have access to the street-level
outdoor courtyard, the lower level gymnasium, and a state-of-the-art computer
lab located in the adjacent new wing. The classrooms will also accommodate
bible classes, the L.E.A.D. Institute, and adult education programs, to be featured
in future updates.
By supporting the Transformation Station Community and Family Life Center, you
are making an investment in our children's future, thereby ensuring the future
for us all.
"Since 1863, the First Baptist Church on West Main Street has been a beacon of hope and healing in our community. Many have found comfort and a new direction for life through this church. In recent years, F.B.C., as the Tribe of Issacar in 1st Chronicles 12:32 "a people who understood the times..." has been on the cutting edge of ministry to address present and future challenges. Anchoring Transformation Ministries, a far-reaching fellowship of ministries and churches, T.M.F.B.C. is on the move for even greater service. On behalf of my wife Reverend Gardenia Beard, our ministers, leaders, and church family I invite you to join with us in this exciting opportunity to make a difference."
